Ruth 4:1-22
Boaz Marries Ruth
1So Boaz went to the town gate and took a seat there. When the family redeemer he had mentioned came by, Boaz called out to him, "Come over here, friend. I want to talk to you." So they sat down together. 2Then Boaz called ten leaders from the town and asked them to sit as witnesses. 3And Boaz said to the family redeemer, "You know Naomi, who came back from Moab. She is selling the land that belonged to our relative Elimelech. 4I felt that I should speak to you about it so that you can redeem it if you wish. If you want the land, then buy it here in the presence of these witnesses. But if you don't want it, let me know right away, because I am next in line to redeem it after you." The man replied, "All right, I'll redeem it."
5Then Boaz told him, "Of course, your purchase of the land from Naomi also requires that you marry Ruth, the Moabite widow. That way, she can have children who will carry on her husband's name and keep the land in the family."
6"Then I can't redeem it," the family redeemer replied, "because this might endanger my own estate. You redeem the land; I cannot do it."
7In those days it was the custom in Israel for anyone transferring a right of purchase to remove his sandal and hand it to the other party. This publicly validated the transaction. 8So the other family redeemer drew off his sandal as he said to Boaz, "You buy the land."
9Then Boaz said to the leaders and to the crowd standing around, "You are witnesses that today I have bought from Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion, and Mahlon. 10And with the land I have acquired Ruth, the Moabite widow of Mahlon, to be my wife. This way she can have a son to carry on the family name of her dead husband and to inherit the family property here in his hometown. You are all witnesses today."
11Then the leaders and all the people standing there replied, "We are witnesses! May the LORD make the woman who is now coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, from whom all the nation of Israel descended! May you be great in Ephrathah and famous in Bethlehem. 12And may the LORD give you descendants by this young woman who will be like those of our ancestor Perez, the son of Tamar and Judah."
The Descendants of Boaz
13So Boaz married Ruth and took her home to live with him. When he slept with her, the LORD enabled her to become pregnant, and she gave birth to a son. 14And the women of the town said to Naomi, "Praise the LORD who has given you a family redeemer today! May he be famous in Israel. 15May this child restore your youth and care for you in your old age. For he is the son of your daughter-in-law who loves you so much and who has been better to you than seven sons!"
16Naomi took care of the baby and cared for him as if he were her own. 17The neighbor women said, "Now at last Naomi has a son again!" And they named him Obed. He became the father of Jesse and the grandfather of David.
18This is their family line beginning with their ancestor Perez:
Perez was the father of Hezron.
19 Hezron was the father of Ram. Ram was the father of Amminadab.
20 Amminadab was the father of Nahshon. Nahshon was the father of Salmon.
21 Salmon was the father of Boaz. Boaz was the father of Obed.
22 Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of David.

~ Lena’s Journalin’ ~
What a story. I just love this story, and as always there’s so much in the story to see and study about. Every time I read it, I see more. That’s how alive God’s word is, as we grow up in the Lord, we can see more than we saw before from the same thing. Everyday is exciting in Christ, His revelations are new everyday that we truly seek after Him, to know Him more and to make Him known more.
Boaz is so wise as he presents the whole package in responsible form. The things we want, everything we want has a price to pay, everything. The promise is great, it is good, but it does have a price.
The price is called responsibility. Notice Boaz was willing to take the responsibility head on, while “no name” was not, “no name” wanted the benefit, but with no responsibility.
You don’t get a “name” without being willing to go all the way and take on responsibility.
I believe this was a similitude of satan, the god of this world, who has natural rights to us without our redemption. If we are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb of God, he relinquishes his right, if we stay irresponsible as he is, we are his. He does not care for us as people, just about taking us from the one who loves us, that’s God our Father.
It’s exactly the same with us and promises we want. People find they don’t really want what they thought they wanted when they find out what really is required, At times when they find what is required by the Lord in the case of salvation, they choose not to follow Him all the way into eternity. The one willing to pay the price to go all the way gets the eternal promise. The one not willing to go all the way is temporary minded, natural minded, can’t see very far ahead into what is truly important.
Let me give an example of an area I’m being dealt with on right now.
The Lord desires each of us who say we love Him to love others. Love is defined in 1 Cor 13:4-8. As we all know there are a few unlovely people out there who don’t care to please God this way. When I encounter those I think I may be justified to not love them so much or be so patient and kind to them, because there’s no reciprocation going on.
The word of God is very clear about loving those who are not loving you back, even calls them enemies, it say love them anyway, not expecting love in return. Sometimes I think, Lord let’s go on (to the promise) and do thus and so in the kingdom and we’ll come back to this one later on. He responds by nudging me to love. Then I hear messages at church or whatever saying, “That thing (“Lena”) is keeping you from the promise you are waiting on. That thing (“Lena”) is the wall that is not allowing the floodgate to open up and make the things you want to happen, happen. That thing is holding it back, It is an obedience, a choice, it is what I (the Lord) want you to make and live out, more than obtaining the promise!”
The thing is He wants the promise too, Oh so greatly, and He even wants it enough to wait for me to be changed in order to obtain it in a responsible way. When the promise comes I need to be developed in love in order to maintain it responsibly. Not only will I not get it till I change and walk in the fruit of the spirit, but if I did, I’d destroy it when I got it. That would be very disheartening, both to me and to God!
God is so wonderful, He often uses the promise as motivation for the change. He teaches us that when we get this we get that, kind of as a reward. The reward is there, the action will open the door. It’s like when a kid knows daddy has brought something home for them, and daddy says, “ok go get the scissors to open the box”, we get the scissors and we easily get the box opened, we don’t get what’s needed, we may try to get the box open, but we might destroy the box in opening it.
Naomi had a promise, Ruth had Noami’s promise, Boaz had a promise, we have a promise. Their destiny’s were intertwined together, each having their part in it. Living out the destiny of another is a principle of the Lord that heads us towards the fulfillment of our own promises. If we are faithful in another mans’ field we get our own. If we are faithful in little we rule much. If we sow we reap, If we allow our own vision to die and make another man’s live, we will find ourselves living forever.
Who’s promises if first fulfilled, will have the keys to unlock all other promises ? The Promises for God, for His desire, for His work.
God wants children, He wants to reconcile the earth back to His heart of Love. We are the tools in His hands to do so. This may be why the stuff we want doesn’t come, we haven’t brought Him any of the stuff He wants, which is men and women loved by Him, through us. Maybe we haven’t laid our lives down for another “mans” vision. God’s vision is for people.
We’ll have to change to obtain His, while we may not have to change to get ours. Say ours is having a place to live, we can move in to that new place and not change, not be changed in character, but in order to win people to the love of God, which is His dream, we have to change.
If we live for our own dreams there’s also minimal change required. If we live for another man’s vision, such as serving in our churches to help promote God’s kingdom a certain man’s way, we also have to change, because now we are more of a representative of the man and God than we were on our own with our own thoughts.
Change is the order of everyday in Christ. Change is good. It brings forth the promises.
