Today Our Daily Bread Hebrews 3

Hebrews 3: 1 - 19
1 And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God F16 and are bound for heaven, think about this Jesus whom we declare to be God's Messenger and High Priest. 2 For he was faithful to God, who appointed him, just as Moses served faithfully and was entrusted with God's entire house. 3 But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a fine house deserves more praise than the house itself. 4 For every house has a builder, but God is the one who made everything. 5 Moses was certainly faithful in God's house, but only as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later. 6 But Christ, the faithful Son, was in charge of the entire household. And we are God's household, if we keep up our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.
7 That is why the Holy Spirit says, "Today you must listen to his voice. 8 Don't harden your hearts against him as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested God's patience in the wilderness. 9 There your ancestors tried my patience, even though they saw my miracles for forty years. 10 So I was angry with them, and I said, 'Their hearts always turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.' 11 So in my anger I made a vow: 'They will never enter my place of rest.'" F17 12 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. F18 Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. 13 You must warn each other every day, as long as it is called "today," so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. 14 For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. 15 But never forget the warning: "Today you must listen to his voice. Don't harden your hearts against him as Israel did when they rebelled." F19 16 And who were those people who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Weren't they the ones Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn't it the people who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom was God speaking when he vowed that they would never enter his place of rest? He was speaking to those who disobeyed him. 19 So we see that they were not allowed to enter his rest because of their unbelief.

Moses’ purpose in serving and Jesus’ purpose in obedience as a Son are both fulfilled in our justification, redemption and relationship with God. We are the reason they both lived and died! The 1st verse says we are bound for heaven. Let’s look at that- bound, committed to, given as a captive to, taken over by, "for heaven". For the purpose of heaven’s work on earth. If we belong to God, we are committed and given over completely as even a captive is given over to, God’s love and His work in others, just as his work was given for us through Moses and through Christ Jesus our Lord!
This is why we would obey. This is why Moses obeyed, This is why Jesus endured hardship of person and obeyed God anyway – because of God’s great love for people and Jesus’ oneness to God’s love for people, because of His relationship with God which gave Him understanding of God’s love for people. Why? For God to have children whom he can demonstrate His love for and to and with, and so they can reflect His love back!
The why being answered can send us and point us in the right direction, but really the love of God can consume us and take us there no matter the why.
People think God is angry at them if they don’t do this or that. We must see how the power of His love is so great that it set aside anger for the purpose of saving us no matter what it would take, and it took all and he willingly and obediently gave all. Can we? Will we? Will is a big, big word. Why would we? Because God is angry?; Or because of love?
Yeah it angers God that satan would have any hand in our lives at all, any influence, that we would give any of ourselves over to the heed of his voice, that we would suffer needlessly, that we would be in torment of sin and separation from God willingly. BUT God loves us and extends His grace to us over and over and over again!
